Our reasons for enjoying the best carnival in Galicia
The Carnival or Galician Entroido is a party in Galicia and from Pousadas de Compostela we encourage you to enjoy them. We recommend you eat a good stew of carnival in our restaurants or make night in one of our hotels in Santiago de Compostela and different points of Galicia. And there is much more, we tell you!
-Discover the Carnival two Xenerais da Ulla, very close to Santiago de Compostela. If you want to enjoy the Entroido or Carnival in Galicia, stop and stay at our hotels in Santiago de Compostela to get to know the Carnival dos Xenerais da Ulla, the most outstanding show of the traditional Carnival in the vicinity of the city of Santiago from the first Half of the 19th century.
The Xenerais are mounted on horseback, disguised in showy military garments similar to those of that time, but which also include purely carnival ornaments, which also carry the horses. Due to its increasing repercussion and to the high interest of the visitors, since 2013 is Fiesta of Tourist Interest of Galicia. You can see them every weekend in February in different parishes in the region.
-Enjoy the gastronomic carnival with Galician stew carnival. It is the most typical food of these parties, which you can enjoy in our restaurants Porta Faxeira, Hotel Virxe da Cerca and Pazo de Lestrove with prior reservation. Opening the mouth with a cooked soup, the special menu does not lack a good plate of green vegetables - giblets and cabbage - with boiled potatoes of the land, chickpeas, rib of veal, chicken and all the intense and genuine flavors offered by the pig , From the lacón, cachucha, ear, tongue, tail or curried sausages and onions.
As final culmination, do not forget to try in our restaurants our special dessert brand of the house. You can enjoy in Carnival this cooked menu for groups of at least 15 people, previous reservation five days in advance, for 30 €, until the month of March. -Dess up yourself! Carnival in Galicia is also synonymous with costumes. Although in Santiago de Compostela the key day for the masks is in the parade of Tuesday of Carnival, in which floats and comparsas cross the whole city, it is also customary to disguise the previous weekend. In fact, if you come to Santiago, keep in mind that the party itself will begin on Saturday, February 25 with a small parade through the historic quarter. It is worth to visit Compostela in an original disguise!
- Know the burning of Meco in Santiago. To dismiss the Entroido and celebrate the beginning of Lent, Ash Wednesday is made in a satirical procession that ends with the burning of the doll that represents the Carnival and is called Meco. It burns in the mythical square of O Toural (very close to our Hotel Airas Nunes and our restaurant Porta Faxeira and Taberna O Boteco). This year's Meco represents the new president of the USA, Donald Trump, since the Meco varies every year, and that usually has something related to the present time loaded with ironic connotations.
-Say goodbye the carnival the first weekend of March in the Pazo de Lestrove. If in Santiago, Ash Wednesday burns the Meco, in the town of Padrón, a step from our Pazo de Lestrove, the party is extended a little longer, until Saturday, March 4, with the Saturday of Piñata. Do not miss the big parade of floats and costumes that will run through the streets in the afternoon and, a little before, at noon, we encourage you to try our special stew of carnival, which will serve you in the restaurant of the Pazo de Lestrove.
If you do not want to miss the Carnival in Galicia, we encourage you to book in our hotels or to taste our stew with your friends, colleagues or family. We will attend you on 981 569 350 or email@example.com.
